Proud To Play covers iPad for the young and elderly

IPad covers that increase the usability of the tablet are valued accessories. Most are sleek and work mainly on flat surface, everything the Proud To Play iPad cover isn’t. Instead, the cover offers a sturdy and bulky EVA foam construction. The Proud To Play is no looker, but it makes up for its appearance by being usable in the lap along with on any flat surface thanks to the sphere on its back.

The device was originally designed for elderly people suffering from dementia so the iPad’s physical buttons are shielded by the cover to cut down on mistaken button presses and physically limit the device to a single app. The company envisions the cover’s use in child and work environments, but the cover’s bulkiness makes it hard to believe anyone would want to transport it around. The attempt is admirable, but the Proud To Play ultimately doesn’t do anything a Sevastone, or many other alternatives, couldn’t. Backers can buy one cover for €35 (~$43), or buy one and give one for €65 (~$80). A donation of €20,000 (~$24,693) will get the product out and shipped by February 2015.

IStandUp props up tablets, lets them hang around

Finding a way to prop up a tablet for easier usage can be a real challenge. IStandUp is one of the newest inventions out there to help resolve this growing issue. This particular stand is made of metal, which will make it more durable for any room in the house. IStandUp is also useful for musicians who like to use their tablet for propping up their music.

It is unclear how this stand is any better than the myriad of other tablet stands flooding the market right now. IStandUp lacks the simple additional function of covering and protecting the tablet when not in use, a huge drawback for those who like an all-in-one type of purchase. Other tablet stand campaigns that backers might want to check out include F2, Plinth, Must and  Léaf Mount to name just a few. This campaign seeks to raise $50,000. For $10, backers get one product with an expected delivery of April 2015.

Branch holds up your tablet, isn’t as big as a tree

The capabilities of tablets have grown more and more ever since the first tablet came out. Now they not only take wonderful photos or control our smart home devices, but also provide entertainment in the form of Netflix streaming and e-books.

The Branch tablet stand makes it possible to read or watch anything on a tablet in bed or on the couch. This stand features a long base that bends in the middle for optimum viewing angle. With an elaborate metal and rubber clamp, the tablet will be sure to stay in place. In addition, the part of Branch that attaches to the tablet can be removed, making it easy to use at a desk or table. This stand is also compatible with keyboards.

Branch’s creator claims it’s the perfect device for at home or on the go. The stand looks a little bulky to be carried around, even in its most minimal form. It doesn’t appear to fold up at all either. There are plenty of other portable tablet stands out there for those needing them. However, this is a nifty stand for at home, especially as tablets become a bigger and bigger part of daily life. Backers can have their own for £65 (~$102) for delivery in April 2015. Branch is looking to raise £19,500 (~$30,500) on Kickstarter.

Clamp Hero keeps tablets hanging to help prevent nagging neck pain

Well, the claim that it is the first tablet holder suitable for planes, trains and busses is hardly a correct one, but it is another tablet holder looking to find its spot in a marketplace that is quickly gaining momentum in that area. Clamp Hero creators claim that the product can be used in most planes, trains and busses with most any smartphone, tablet or e-reader because of its unique clamping system. It hooks on the back of the seat in front of the passenger, and adjusts to fit the desired mobile device. It also folds up when not in use for easy transport and is available in many colors.

Interested backers might also want to check out Stand-pod, F2, Plinth, and Must. This campaign seeks to raise €6,000 (~$7,400). Early bird backers get one product for €21 (~$26) with an expected delivery of April 2015.

GripTipz are tiny homes for your fingertips for a better tablet grip

Hanging onto that tablet or smartphone can be a real challenge on those days when life seems to be happening faster than the speed of light. And dropping an electronic device can bring sudden disaster. That’s why GripTipz was created. The soft, rubber-like grips get placed on the back of a mobile device where fingers would naturally go to give an added ability to hold gadgets more securely while still offering comfort. Multiple color options are available in an attempt to keep gadget aesthetics appealing.

While this is an interesting idea, it seems that there are better solutions in the making. Backers might want to check out LapTape and GerpGrip for ideas of what may work best for their own lifestyle situations. This campaign seeks to raise $15,000. For a donation of $19, early bird backers get one product with an expected delivery in February 2015.

Project Wedge is a cheap, portable projector for tablets

Lots of young millennial have figured out that televisions are expensive. However, with the right cables and devices, they can project television shows and movies onto a blank wall or screen for entertainment. Since companies would rather have consumers spending money on expensive equipment, the typical project model is lagging behind in innovation.

Project Wedge is a mini projector for the young adult consumer in mind. Working with tablets and smartphones via an HDMI cable, Project Wedge projects images from these devices. It looks sharp on a screen or wall up to 60 inches. With a battery that lasts for four hours, it’ll be easy to watch a move on the big screen, perhaps streamed from Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Not only is Project Wedge easy to use and compatible with a wide range of devices, but it’s also quite compact, not much bigger than a tablet with a stand. All in all this is a nifty little product, perfect for those who don’t care for cable or flatscreen televisions. One will cost backers $150 for delivery in September 2015. This product is looking to raise $100,000 with the help of Indiegogo.

Harrier Cable loops in multiple USB data modes

While most of us are perfectly OK with the capabilities of our Android smartphones and tablets, there is a very vocal minority who continually clamor for more openness and connectivity. As a platform, Android performs admirably in this respect and makes sure to offer users the ability to do so. Problem is, users may need special connection solutions to use keyboards and mice with their device, for example.

The Harrier Cable is an extremely low-cost option to both charge your device while giving you the option to also use keyboards, mice, printer, and even game controllers with your smart device. The cable also supports the option of charging multiple devices with one power socket as each cable can connect to each other.

All in all, this product is extremely niche and seems like something you’d see in one of those markets full of all kinds of technology knick knacks rather than something a tad more serious. Again, it is only going for $12, so it is a price point that may be subject to an impulse purchase. The Harrier Cable will be available by the end of this year provided the campaign reaches their modest $1,000 goal.

iTray lets you tap on your tablet while it stands by your side

If there are carrying cases for laptops, there ought to be some for tablets too. Oh, wait, maybe they call those netbook bags. Nevertheless, iTray has a unique identity. The tablet shoulder bag has an adjustment system and magnetic closures that fold back into a tray-like position so that it can be used while standing and walking. There is also a large pocket that stows your power cord, earbuds, mobile phone and other important lifestyle trinkets. The tablet stand feature allows it to rotate 360 degrees, and the bag has easy access to a tablet camera and controls.

The tablets with which this case are compatible are not clearly stated, but the case seems durable since it is made of leather and has metal clasps. Even though backers may look a little bit like they’re selling popcorn at a stadium, this is still a useful product for tablet enthusiasts. This campaign seeks to raise $5,500 by December 5, 2014. Backers get one product for $29 with an expected delivery of December 2014.

Tab-Legs are the spindly appendages that chase us in nightmares

Tablets are amazingly convenient when on the go when people don’t want to be bothered with toting a bulky laptop. The one place they fall short, though, is that they lay flat without help. Tab-Legs offers a solution that makes those extended periods of usage for things like watching movies, browsing online and checking e-mail much more comfortable. The product’s flexible, spindly legs almost look like something out of a Disney movie, allowing a tablet to hang from sofas and chairs, or tuck the legs in between the cushions. It’s flexible enough to fold up and fit in any travel bag, and can hang from an upright table tray on the plane.

The campaign doesn’t make it clear what the product is made of or how long the legs are, but it comes with one renewable sticky pad to attach the legs, two magnetic disks, and one air caddy. Other tablet stands backers may want to check out include Dutchman and MUST. This campaign seeks to raise $500 by December 14, 2014. Early bird backers get one product for $29, with an expected delivery of March 2015.

Tablet Branch can position your Surface above the surface

One of the most relaxing things to do on a snowy and frigid winter evening is to sit curled up on a couch in front of a toasty fire, with maybe a mug of hot chocolate or cider on the side. Tablet Branch will even hold the user’s choice of electronic gadget so sipping does not get unnecessarily interrupted.  When using it at home, it can be used on either side of the bed, couch or easy chair since the stand stand telescopes from 11″ to 20″ in height, and twists and rotates 360 degrees. Its lightweight, but solid metal design is compatible with any tablet, iPad or eReader from 7” to 11” in size and weighing up to 2.65lbs.

The specifics on which tablets and iPads or eReaders are the most compatible are not noted, but it appears that at least the most popular brands will be compatible.  This campaign seeks to raise $33,000 CAD (~$29,200 USD) by December 12, 2014. For $100 CAD (~$88 USD) backers get one product with an expected delivery of January 2015.
